Rare Padma Besha of Holy Trinity to be performed at Shrimandir today

Puri, Jan 21: The rare and much-awaited Padma Besha (Lotus Attire) of Mahaprabhu will be performed at the Shrimandir today. On this occasion, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra will be adorned with exquisite lotus decorations along with traditional Kala Ghoda embellishments.

The Padma Besha has been prepared under the supervision of Bada Chhata Matha, with the Shrimandir’s traditional Besha artisans observing strict ritual discipline. The artisans followed customary practices, including the consumption of Habisanna, while meticulously crafting the attire with devotion.

Preparations for the Padma Besha begin annually from Pandu Purnima. A variety of traditional materials such as sola pith, zari, jambura, kaitha gum, bamboo, cane, and different fabrics have been used in its creation. Tailor (Darji) and painter (Chitrakara) servitors were also engaged in the intricate work.

The Besha includes elaborate elements like lotus-shaped hands, swans, branches, lotus faces, a decorated throne with trees, lotus motifs on the divine hands, lotus flowers, and ornate headgear. As per tradition, Bada Chhata Matha has been supplying the Padma Besha for the deities.

The attire will be brought to the Shrimandir this evening, and the deities will be adorned in Padma Besha during the Badasinghara ritual at night. Devotees and servitors will be able to have darshan of the rare Besha until Mangala Alati on Thursday.

A large number of devotees are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to witness the rare Padma Besha of Mahaprabhu.
