Puri, June 13: In a significant crackdown ahead of the annual Rath Yatra, Puri Town Police have arrested an alleged "Khaja mafia" operator identified as Sohan and produced him before a court.
According to police sources, Sohan was the prime accused in a recent clash linked to the Khaja business in the Sri Krishna Cinema Lane area of Puri. A few days ago, tensions reportedly escalated among traders over the sale and distribution of Khaja, the traditional sweet closely associated with pilgrims visiting the holy city. The dispute led to a scuffle and created law-and-order concerns in the locality.
Following an investigation, police identified Sohan as the main accused in the incident and subsequently arrested him. He was later forwarded to the court for further legal proceedings.
With the world-famous Rath Yatra approaching, Puri Police have intensified their special enforcement drive under Operation Chakra to curb criminal activities and ensure a peaceful atmosphere for devotees and visitors. Authorities said strict action will continue against individuals involved in illegal activities that could disrupt public order during the festival season.
