Bhubaneswar, March 22: A private tutor has been arrested in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district for allegedly murdering his 14-year-old student after her family confronted him over his inappropriate advances. The incident came to light on Sunday, with police confirming the arrest.
According to police, the 39-year-old tutor had been giving private lessons to the girl. However, when her family learned of his advances toward her, they warned him to stay away. Humiliated by the confrontation, the tutor reportedly invited the girl to meet him on Friday evening.
The two went to a secluded spot, where an argument ensued. In a fit of rage, the tutor strangled the girl with his hands before using his belt to kill her, as per Karanjia SDPO's statement.
The victim's lifeless body was discovered in a sack near a bush just a few meters from her home the following Saturday.
Following an investigation, the tutor was detained and questioned by the authorities. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and was subsequently arrested.
