United States President Donald Trump has declared a landmark breakthrough regarding the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups within the Gaza Strip. Taking to his Truth Social platform, the 80-year-old Republican stated that a new international oversight body known as the Board of Peace secured this agreement. Trump, who serves as the founding chairman of this organisation launched in early 2026, described the development as a monumental step toward lasting security. He noted that the plan sets the stage for a new Palestinian administration and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Phased Withdrawal and Security Transition

Implementation of this Gaza disarmament agreement will happen in carefully structured phases, aligning directly with the Trump 20-Point Plan. Once armed groups surrender their weapons, Israeli troops will begin pulling out of the region. Following this departure, a temporary International Stabilization Force will step in. This global security team will partner with a newly formed Palestinian police force to ensure safety for local residents and neighboring countries. Historically, governing authority in this enclave has fractured between rival factions, making unified security arrangements notoriously difficult to sustain. Under this fresh framework, civilian matters will fall under the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

Lingering Doubts over Immediate Compliance

Uncertainty still surrounds the practical execution of these proposed terms. Representatives from Hamas have not yet issued a public statement regarding the announcement. Meanwhile, an Israeli official previously informed Reuters that the conditions were inadequate. That official demanded total demilitarisation and the absolute removal of weapons from the Strip before Israel commits to any formal process. Furthermore, a diplomat closely linked to Egyptian mediators pointed out that Israel's official response will determine whether this framework expands into a broader treaty.

Conflict continues on the ground even as diplomats push forward with negotiations. Palestinian medical officials reported that Israeli strikes killed at least six people on Thursday, a toll that tragically included two children. Despite the ongoing bloodshed, Trump expressed confidence that Israel will finally secure safety from terror attacks. He also extended his gratitude to key regional mediators, specifically thanking officials from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their dedicated work on this file.
