Jeypore, Mar 31: As the country marks the deadline for a Naxal-free India, police officials paid tribute to the families of two village guards who were martyred in a Naxal attack.
Under the direction of Koraput District Superintendent of Police, Rohit Verma, a team led by Jeypore Sub-Division Police Officer Archita Mittal visited the families of the guards in the Boipariguda area. The officials held discussions with the families and honoured the sacrifice of the martyrs. The two families were presented with shawls and certificates of appreciation as a mark of respect.
According to reports, the two village guards, Gourachandra Dalai of Dashmantpur and Bhagaban Nayak of Garliput, were ambushed and shot dead by Naxalites on October 25, 2012. The incident occurred while they were on duty at the Boipariguda police station, after acting on intelligence inputs from the police.
