Passenger bus rams parked truck near Angul, conductor dies

Angul, June 5: One person was killed and at least 10 others sustained injuries after a passenger bus collided with a stationary coal-laden truck near Luhamunda on National Highway-55 in Angul district during the early hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as the conductor of the bus, ‘Dilkush’, which was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Jharsuguda. The accident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. when the bus reportedly lost control and rammed into the truck parked on the roadside.

Following the crash, local residents and fire services personnel launched a rescue operation and evacuated the injured passengers. The critically injured were rushed to hospital, with some referred to Cuttack for advanced treatment. Six passengers are stated to be in critical condition, while others are undergoing treatment at the Angul District Headquarters Hospital.

Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
