Baripada, June 17: Wildlife authorities in the Similipal Tiger Reserve have installed more than 20 camera traps within a 20-km radius to closely monitor tigress Zeenat and her four cubs, who are currently roaming through the northern division of the reserve.
According to forest officials, the tigress had given birth to the cubs in the southern part of the reserve, a core tiger habitat zone. Since then, the family has been gradually moving across both core and buffer areas, now largely active in the northern region of Similipal.
Officials confirmed that all four cubs are healthy and are under continuous observation using a combination of radio-collar tracking and camera trap surveillance.
“We are using a dual monitoring system—radio-collar signals and camera trap images—to track the tigress and her cubs. Care is being taken to ensure there is no disturbance to the animals. From our observations, the tigress is taking good care of her cubs,” said Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Director (Similipal North).
Forest officials added that the monitoring effort is aimed at ensuring the safety of the big cat family while studying their movement patterns within the reserve.
