Odisha weather update predicts fresh low pressure formation in Bay of Bengal by July third

Monsoon intensifies across Odisha as fresh low pressure approaches

Meteorological officials expect a fresh low-pressure system to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 3, 2026. This development stems from a persisting upper air cyclonic circulation currently positioned over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjacent Bangladesh regions. As this system tilts southwestwards with height, it continues to channel significant moisture into the coastal state.

Heavy Rainfall Batters Multiple Districts

Recent data from the file named "Amount of rainfall.jpeg" reveals that heavy downpours have already impacted several key agricultural belts. Four major weather stations registered very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm. Additionally, sixteen other active stations recorded heavy rainfall measuring between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm during the same period.

Baripada in Mayurbhanj recorded the highest individual volume at 135 mm, followed closely by Chandua at 130 mm and Suliapada at 128 mm. A detailed look at the document named "Realized 30th June 2026.jpg" indicates that while northern areas experienced intense downpours, western pockets faced elevated heat. Nuapada registered the maximum temperature across the state at 40.4°C. Meanwhile, the capital city Bhubaneswar recorded a high of 38.2°C alongside 11.6 mm of rain.

Current Safety Alerts Issued

Emergency personnel remain on high alert due to these rapid atmospheric changes. IMD Bhubaneswar issued an urgent safety alert for Mayurbhanj district, predicting immediate moderate rain paired with intense lightning. Furthermore, temperature show clear deviations between wet coastal zones and the dry interior plains. Historically, early July cyclonic systems in the Bay of Bengal heavily dictate the trajectory of the main monsoon season across Odisha. Regional administrative bodies advise people to avoid open fields during heavy lightning strikes and monitor state updates closely.
