Odisha vigilance arrests two VIMSAR officials in separate DA case

The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested two officials of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, in separate cases for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Odisha vigilance arrests two VIMSAR officials in separate DA case

Sambalpur, Jul 1: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested two officials of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, in separate cases for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The accused have been identified as Aswini Meher, Steward in the office of the Superintendent, and Dhanurdhar Biswal, Establishment Officer-cum-Office Superintendent at VIMSAR. Both were arrested following simultaneous Vigilance raids at properties linked to them and will be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur.

Assets Unearthed from Aswini Meher

According to an official release, searches at properties linked to Aswini Meher led to the detection of assets that he allegedly failed to satisfactorily account for. These include:

Three buildings, including

  1. A multi-storeyed building measuring 8,145 sq ft
  2. One store room
  3. 83 grams of gold
  4. 10 valuable plots of land

Based on the findings, Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 08/2026 has been registered against Meher under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018.

Assets Unearthed from Dhanurdhar Biswal

In a separate operation, Vigilance officials arrested Dhanurdhar Biswal after allegedly discovering substantial assets disproportionate to his known income. The assets recovered during searches include:

  1. Two buildings, including a multi-storey building measuring around 1,700 sq ft
  2. 32 valuable plots of land
  3. Cash worth over ₹19.72 lakh
  4. 83.05 grams of gold
  5. Bank and other deposits exceeding ₹39 lakh
  6. Two Hyva trucks
  7. Two tractors
  8. One four-wheeler

Officials said Biswal was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the source of the assets recovered during the searches.

In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 09/2026 has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018.

The Odisha Vigilance said further investigations are underway in both cases to ascertain the full extent of the assets and examine possible financial irregularities.
