Odisha Vigilance arrests panchayat accountant for accepting Rs 6,000 bribe

Bhubaneswar, Sept 27: Vigilance apprehended Rakesh Kumar Sahoo, an Accountant and Data Entry Operator (ADEO) at Niladriprasad Panchayat in Khordha district, for accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a tribal beneficiary of the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana.

Sahoo allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for releasing the first installment of Rs 40,000 intended for the construction of a house under the government’s housing scheme. The complainant, who had been facing harassment, reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, prompting a trap operation. Sahoo was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.

The entire bribe amount of Rs 6,000 was recovered from Sahoo’s possession, and a case has been registered against him. In addition, searches are underway at two locations associated with Sahoo to probe any disproportionate assets. Vigilance officials are continuing their investigation into the matter.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Odisha Vigilance to combat corruption and ensure transparency in public service delivery.
