Bhubaneswar, July 10: Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in Odisha are expected to be held in April or May 2027.
Secretary, Odisha State Election Commission (SEC), Santosh Das informed it on Friday about the significant polls, scheduled to be conducted after completion of SIR across the state.
Formal notification in this connection is likely to be issued once the SIR reports are submitted with the SEC and latest electoral rolls are prepared accordingly following meticulous enumeration.
The Odisha State Election Commission (SEC), on the other hand has already begun preparations for the 2027 Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections by scheduling a comprehensive review meeting with all District Collectors and Magistrates on July 21.
As per an official communication, the meeting will be conducted via video conferencing on the OSWAN platform from 11:30 am under the chairmanship of the State Election Commissioner.
A key agenda of the meeting will be to assess the progress of the ongoing door-to-door survey aimed at preparing booth-wise electoral rolls for the 2027 PRI and ULB elections. District authorities will also provide updates on pending Detailed Contingent (DC) Bills and Utilisation Certificates (UCs) related to the 2022 Urban Local Bodies General Elections.
In addition, the Commission will review the implementation of decisions taken during earlier review meetings and discuss further measures to ensure election-related activities are completed within the prescribed timeline.
The SEC has instructed Additional District Magistrates functioning as ULB Nodal Officers, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and other concerned officials to attend the meeting from their respective district OSWAN centres.
The review meeting forms part of the Commission's advance planning to strengthen electoral roll preparation, enhance administrative preparedness, and facilitate the smooth conduct of the 2027 local body elections across Odisha.
