Bhubaneswar, July 2: The Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission (OUSSSC) has announced that the Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination will be conducted by October this year, bringing relief to thousands of aspirants awaiting the recruitment process.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, OUSSSC Chairman Rashmiranjan Swain said candidates who were unable to appear for the examination due to the earlier question paper leak would be allowed to take the test. He also clarified that aspirants who have crossed the upper age limit during the delay would be granted age relaxation to appear for the examination. The chairman further stated that there would be no changes to the existing examination pattern or syllabus.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of SI aspirants under the banner of Students Against Corruption staged a demonstration outside the OUSSSC office in Bhubaneswar, demanding an early announcement of the examination schedule. The protesters alleged that although the commission was constituted nearly three months ago, its official website is yet to be launched. They also expressed concern that candidates who have been preparing for the recruitment examination for nearly two years continue to face uncertainty over the examination date.
In a symbolic protest, the organisation's convenor, Bibhuti Bhushan Mahapatra, named the newly opened OUSSSC office and inaugurated it by cutting a black ribbon, highlighting the delay in officially naming the office.
Following the protest, OUSSSC Chairman Rashmiranjan Swain visited the agitation site and held discussions with the aspirants. After assuring them that the SI recruitment examination would be conducted by October, the protesters withdrew their agitation.
