Odisha govt issues SOP for EV charging stations across urban areas

Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Odisha Transport Department has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the establishment of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across all urban local bodies in the state. The initiative aims to strengthen EV infrastructure and promote the adoption of electric mobility in urban areas.

As per the SOP, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will identify suitable land for setting up charging stations, with priority to be given to government buildings, parking hubs and market complexes. While selecting locations, ULBs have been directed to ensure adequate space availability, public accessibility, electricity connectivity, safety and security measures, parking feasibility and scope for future expansion.

The SOP also mandates ULBs to undertake site development works, including the provision of parking sheds, lighting facilities, drinking water, sanitation amenities and other supporting infrastructure required for the smooth functioning of EV charging stations.

The selected agency will be responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of the charging stations. It will oversee the establishment of charging infrastructure and ensure its efficient management and upkeep.

The move is expected to accelerate the development of EV charging networks across Odisha’s urban centres and support the state's transition towards sustainable transportation.
