Odisha govt begins process to fill vacant posts in boards, corporations

Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Odisha government has started the process of filling up vacant posts in various state-run boards and corporations.

The Public Enterprises Department has initiated the recruitment exercise and sought details of vacancies across state public sector undertakings (PSUs).

According to an official communication issued by the department, the government aims to fill 1,183 vacant positions by June 30. Earlier, all departments were directed to submit information on vacancies in boards and corporations, along with details of appointments made since the current government assumed office.

Reports indicate that 17 departments submitted data covering 32 boards and corporations. Of these, 677 appointments have been made since the new government took charge. However, 17 boards and corporations have not recorded any appointments during this period.

Several key positions, including those of chairpersons in various boards and corporations, have remained vacant for nearly two years. In view of the prolonged vacancies, the state government has signalled that appointments will be made at the earliest.

The issue was reportedly discussed with the central leadership during the recent visit of the Chief Minister and the State BJP President to New Delhi. The government is now focusing on a time-bound recruitment drive to fill long-pending vacancies across state PSUs.

Sources indicate that the state leadership has prepared a roadmap to accommodate party leaders in boards, corporations, and councils.

Most of these positions have remained vacant since June 2024, when the present government assumed office and removed all political appointees of the previous administration.
