Bhubaneswar, July 8: Former Choudwar MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal is likely to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, sources said.
The speculation and the talk of the town yet intensified as Souvic Biswal, son of Pravat who is now representing the Choudwar Assembly Constituency, visited the BJP office on Saturday.
Souvic was found discussing with some top BJP brasses in Cuttack which is expected to be politically significant.
On the other hand, Odisha BJP is almost keen to see Pravat in the Saffron camp and bracing up to induct him to the party soon, to secure the Choudwar Assembly Constituency in the next election.
Apart from it, the Odisha BJP is of course eying the forthcoming PRI and ULB elections in Choudwar in its favor with a thumping victory, garniering Pravat & Souvic’s organisational basement, built up in the ground.
However, there has been no official confirmation from either Biswal or the state BJP headquarters yet. Meanwhile, abuzz among the political realms indicates some potential political move across the state involving Pravat Biswal and Souvic, based on their earlier episodes with the BJD, especially in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha election & especially the cross-voting row.
Pravat’s advance towards the BJP or the state BJP’s interest to embrace the veteran leader Pravat along with his son to the party, has now drawn significant attention in the state political sphere assessing the duo’s organisational experience, public profile, and grassroot leadership in the Choudwar ground.
Political observers presume that, Biswal, who was expelled from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on February 28, will join the saffron party at State party headquarters in a ‘Mishran Parba’ in the presence of BJP national president Nitin Nabin.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, party Odisha unit president Manmohan Samal, Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Ray and other senior leaders might attend the union.
Now, all eyes are on the BJD councilors of Choudwar Municipality and corporators of Kataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) to see whether they will follow Biswal and join the saffron party.
In February, Biswal, a three-time MLA was expelled from the BJD for indiscipline and anti-party activities by openly opposing the candidature of Santrupt Misra, political secretary to party president Naveen Patnaik, for Rajya Sabha election in February.
The BJD in Kataka district, most particularly in the Kataka-Barabati Assembly constituency received a major jolt recently after Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantray quit the party also the Rajya Sabha seat and join the BJP. He was re-elected to the Upper House on the BJP ticket.
If Biswal joins the BJP, it would not only pose a political threat to BJD but also create political storm within BJP with party’s senior leader Nayan Kishore Mohanty leading the party from the front in Kataka-Choudwar area since a long.
