Odisha: First Phase of Census and House Listing Begins in 30 Districts from April 16

Bhubaneswar, April 13: The Directorate of Census Operations, Odisha, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Government of Odisha, is set to commence the first phase of the Census and House Listing process across 30 districts of Odisha starting from April 16.

This phase will involve trained enumerators and supervisors visiting households door-to-door to collect data from April 16 to May 15. Before this, the Self-Enumeration program is underway, allowing the public to submit their information independently via the Self-Enumeration Portal (se.census.gov.in), running until midnight on April 15.

As part of the Census process, 176,000 families have already provided their details through the Self-Enumeration program. The public is encouraged to participate and submit their information before the April 15 deadline to ensure the completeness of the data.

The program is being overseen by the District Collectors and Municipal Corporation Commissioners, acting as Principal Census Officers. Additional District Collectors serve as District Census Officers, while Tahsildars of each Tehsil and Executive Officers of Statutory Towns function as Charge Officers under the District Collector. The Revenue and Disaster Management Department of the Government of Odisha is the Nodal Department coordinating the initiative.

Enumerators, who are primarily primary school teachers from the School and Mass Education Department, along with high school teachers acting as supervisors, will be responsible for door-to-door data collection through a mobile app. This process will take place from April 16 to May 15.

For any issues related to the Census and House Listing Program, citizens can contact the Census Directorate, Odisha, at the Toll-Free Telephone Number 1855.

In addition, a new Census song will be officially launched today in celebration of this milestone. This is the first digital Census in India, marking the introduction of self-enumeration, which will be re-verified by enumerators. Digital tools, such as the CMMS Portal, are also being used to create house listing blocks.

The success of this program depends on the active and accurate participation of the public, and their cooperation is crucial for the smooth implementation of the Census operations.
