Odisha CM Majhi Thanks Nitin Gadkari for Approving ₹447.11 Crore for Highway Upgrade

Bhubaneswar, April 4: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for approving ₹447.11 crore for the upgrade of a key National Highway in the state

In an official statement, the Chief Minister conveyed his appreciation on behalf of the people of Odisha, emphasizing that this sanctioned project would not only strengthen a vital interstate corridor but also significantly improve connectivity across several districts in the state.

The approved project focuses on the upgradation of a 103.52-km stretch of the Kurumpuri–Raj Khariar section along National Highways 353 and 59 in Nuapada and Balangir districts. This corridor is a key link between the Raipur–Mahasamund region of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, extending further to Berhampur and the Gopalpur Port. It serves as an essential route for both passenger and freight movement.

Majhi highlighted the far-reaching benefits of the project, stating that it would enhance road safety, facilitate smoother traffic flow, and unlock the tourism potential of areas like Daringbadi and the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary.

“This transformative project will accelerate regional development and bring lasting prosperity to the people of Odisha,” Majhi posted on X.

In a separate statement, Gadkari noted that the upgradation would positively impact multiple districts, including Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Ganjam. The project’s scope includes the rectification of accident-prone black spots and the addition of paved shoulders, enhancing commuter safety, particularly for two-wheeler riders.

The upgraded highway is expected to improve the movement of goods and passengers, provide better access to remote and hilly areas, and stimulate tourism and economic growth in the region. Officials anticipate that the project will provide a significant infrastructure boost to southern and western Odisha—regions that have long struggled with connectivity challenges. Upon completion, the upgraded highway is expected to reduce travel time, lower logistics costs, and strengthen trade ties between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The construction phase of the project will also create job opportunities and foster local economic growth, benefiting the communities in these districts.

both industrial logistics and tourism potential in the region.
