Bhubaneswar, May 14: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed a stringent crackdown on organized crime and mob violence, instructing Superintendents of Police (SPs) to personally oversee investigations and uphold the rule of law.
During a high-level meeting at Lok Seba Bhaban today, chaired by CM Majhi, he emphasized that efforts to curb organized crime, extremist activities, and mob lynching must be supervised by officers no lower than the rank of SP.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Home Secretary Hemant Sharma, and DGP Y.B. Khurania.
CM Majhi instructed SPs participating via video conference to take firm action against illegal drug trades, land mafia operations, and economic offenders.
He stressed the need for strict enforcement against criminals and warned against any laxity in police performance.
Highlighting women’s safety, the Chief Minister reaffirmed a zero-tolerance approach and emphasized the implementation of the “Shaktishree” initiative for safer educational campuses and rapid grievance redressal.
In response to a brutal mob lynching in Balianta on 7 May 2026, CM Majhi had also directed the DGP to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.
He also underscored that the police have been given full autonomy to act without political interference.
