Odisha CM lays foundation stone for affordable ‘Janashraya’ guesthouse in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, June 13: In a significant step towards improving public amenities in the state capital, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday laid the foundation stone for Janashraya, a large-scale guesthouse project designed to provide affordable accommodation to people visiting Bhubaneswar from different parts of the state.

According to the state government, the proposed facility will feature 768 rooms and around 2,000 beds, enabling visitors from all 30 districts of Odisha to stay in the capital at a nominal cost.

The guesthouse will include several visitor-friendly amenities, including an eatery, retail shops, and a parking facility capable of accommodating nearly 600 vehicles. Visitors will be able to avail overnight accommodation for just Rs 100 per person, making the facility particularly beneficial for people travelling to the city for official work, medical treatment, and other essential purposes.

The project follows a proposal approved by the Odisha government for establishing a dedicated guesthouse in the capital city. The General Administration and Public Grievance Department had issued an order in June last year approving the construction of the facility.

As per the government order, the guesthouse, to be constructed at Ashok Nagar, aims to provide convenient accommodation for visitors arriving from various districts and support those travelling for administrative and healthcare-related needs.

Officials said the Janashraya project is expected to ease accommodation challenges for thousands of people visiting Bhubaneswar every year while offering a safe, affordable, and accessible lodging option in the heart of the capital city.
