Bhubaneswar, June 7:Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday formally launched the second phase of the Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Vidyalaya Scheme by laying the foundation stone for 204 model schools across the state, marking a major step in the government's efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and improve access to quality schooling.

The programme was inaugurated at Lokanath Dev Government High School in Kumarabasta under the Jatni Assembly constituency of Khordha district. The initiative aims to expand modern educational facilities to students, particularly in rural and underserved regions.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Majhi reiterated the government's vision of establishing at least one model school in every panchayat to ensure equitable and quality education for all. He said the launch of the second phase fulfils a commitment made by the state government to accelerate educational development at the grassroots level.

“The foundation stone for the second phase of the Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Vidyalaya Scheme has been laid today in line with our government's promise. Earlier, foundation stones for 118 such schools were laid in Banpur. With the addition of 204 schools in this phase, many more panchayats across Odisha, including those in Khordha district, will gain access to improved educational facilities,” he said.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, elected representatives and senior government officials were present during the event.

Under the first phase of the scheme, foundation stones had been laid for 118 model schools. The addition of 204 new institutions significantly expands the programme, which focuses on creating modern campuses equipped with advanced academic facilities, digital learning resources and sports infrastructure.

The Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Vidyalaya Scheme is among the flagship education initiatives of the Odisha government, designed to raise the standard of school education and provide students with a learning environment comparable to leading institutions. Officials said the expansion is expected to enhance educational opportunities and contribute to improved learning outcomes for thousands of students across the state.
