Odisha Cabinet puts Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project on hold: Approves termination of agreement with DMRC

Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday resolved to put Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project on hold in current form. With it, agreement of the Odisha government with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was resolved to be terminated.

Bhubaneswar, April 5: Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday resolved to put Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project on hold in current form.

With it, agreement of the Odisha government with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was resolved to be terminated.

According to the Cabinet’ decision, the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) will be repurposed as nodal agency under Sustainable Urban Mobility Transition Plan.Meanwhile, ₹273.51 crore spent for the project till December 31, 2025 was regularized.

The Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved 16 key proposals, notably announcing an additional 5 kg of rice per month for 2.4 crore beneficiaries across 19 districts under the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana

The meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. These proposals, spanning across 13 departments, received the Cabinet's approval.

One of the key announcements was the launch of the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana, which will provide an additional 5 kg of rice to beneficiaries in the state.

In addition, the Cabinet approved an increase in the reservation quota for SC, ST, and SEBC students.

CM Majhi also announced that benefits under the Mukhyamantri Handloom Yojana will be extended as part of the new provisions.

These measures are expected to enhance welfare support for marginalized communities and provide further assistance to the state’s handloom sector.
