Bhubaneswar, July 15: The Odisha Cabinet has approved the Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY)-Connecting Missing Road Links (CMRL) scheme to enhance road connectivity across the state.
The ambitious scheme will be implemented over a five-year period from 2025-26 to 2029-30 with a total financial outlay of ₹1,917 crore. Under the programme, the government plans to develop nearly 3,850 kilometres of roads to bridge critical missing road links across Odisha.
The Cabinet has also approved the completion of all ongoing projects under the scheme, along with the construction of connecting bridges and small cross-drainage (CD) structures wherever required to ensure seamless connectivity.
The initiative aims to strengthen inter-block, inter-district and interstate road networks, while improving access to remote, border and island regions that currently lack adequate connectivity.
According to the government, the scheme will reduce travel distances by linking state roads with road networks in neighbouring states, facilitating smoother movement of people and goods.
The improved road infrastructure is expected to provide easier access to essential public services, including hospitals, schools, colleges, panchayat offices, markets, tourist destinations, and commercial hubs. It is also expected to promote trade, boost economic activity, and improve the quality of life for people living in rural and border areas.
Following the Cabinet's approval, the Rural Development Department will implement the projects in a phased manner.
