No Decision Yet on Raising Ethanol Blending Beyond 20%: Union Minister

New Delhi, July 23: The Centre on Thursday informed Parliament that no decision has been taken to increase ethanol blending in petrol beyond the current 20 per cent.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi said any future move would follow detailed scientific studies and consultations with stakeholders, including automakers, oil companies and research institutions.

The government said E20 fuel has been proven safe through extensive testing and nationwide use, with no verified evidence of widespread engine damage in over 20 crore two-wheelers and 3 crore petrol cars.

It added that the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme has saved over ₹1.97 lakh crore in foreign exchange, reduced crude oil imports and carbon emissions, while benefiting farmers.
