Mumbai, June 26:The makers of Mirzapur: The Movie on Thursday unveiled the much-awaited teaser, offering fans a gripping first glimpse of the big-screen adaptation of the acclaimed crime drama franchise. The teaser confirms the return of several beloved characters while revealing that the film will serve as a prequel to the hit streaming series.
The teaser brings back Pankaj Tripathi as the formidable Kaleen Bhaiya, who is once again shown ruling the crime-ridden town of Mirzapur. Ali Fazal reprises his role as Guddu Pandit, while Divyenndu returns as the volatile Munna Tripathi. Rasika Dugal also reprises her role, alongside Rajesh Tailang and Sheeba Chadha.
Set before the events of the original series, the film explores the origins of the power struggle in Mirzapur. The teaser highlights the strained relationship between Kaleen Bhaiya and his ambitious son Munna, while also delving into Guddu Pandit's early conflict with his father over his growing involvement in the world of crime.
The film also introduces new faces to the franchise. Ravi Kishan joins the cast as a gangster, while Jitendra Kumar takes on the role of Bablu, a character originally portrayed by Vikrant Massey in the streaming series. Ahead of the teaser release, the makers had generated excitement by unveiling character posters featuring Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya and Munna Bhaiya.
Directed by Gurmeet Singh, who helmed the second and third seasons of the series, Mirzapur: The Movie is written by franchise creator Puneet Krishna. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment and will be released in both Hindi and Telugu.
The Mirzapur franchise first premiered as a streaming series in 2018 and has since completed three successful seasons. Having wrapped production in January 2026, Mirzapur: The Movie is slated for an exclusive theatrical release on September 4.
