Mayurbhanj, Ap 14: In a concerning development, over 50 students at an ashram school in Rasgobindpur block, Mayurbhanj district, fell ill after consuming food at the school, sparking alarm among authorities and local residents.
All affected students were initially admitted to Rasgobindpur hospital. By Monday, over 50 students in serious condition were transferred to Baripada District Headquarters Hospital, with one student requiring ICU care due to critical health complications.
Reports indicate that some students recovered and returned to the hostel, but the majority still showed significant signs of infection. Authorities conducted urgent health assessments, arranging proper treatment and monitoring for all affected children.
State Minister and local MLA Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra visited Baripada District Hospital late Monday night to check on the students’ condition and coordinated with the District Collector and Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) to ensure immediate and quality medical care.
Minister Mahapatra emphasized that the incident is being taken very seriously. “Children’s health comes first. There will be a thorough investigation if food quality or hygiene standards were neglected. Those responsible will face strict legal action,” he stated. Reports suggest the students’ health is gradually improving under medical supervision.
