Bhubaneswar, April 27: In a shocking incident in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, a tribal man brought the skeleton of his deceased sister to a bank in an attempt to withdraw money from her account, police said.
The incident took place at the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank in Patana block. The man, identified as 50-year-old Jeetu Munda from Dianali village, reportedly wanted to withdraw ₹20,000 from the account of his elder sister, 56-year-old Kalra Munda, who passed away on January 26, 2026.
“I had visited the bank several times, but they insisted that the account holder must be present to withdraw the funds. Even though I explained that she had died, they refused to listen. Frustrated, I exhumed her body and brought the skeleton as proof,” Jeetu, who is illiterate, told reporters.
Patana Police Station Inspector Kiran Prasad Sahu, who arrived at the scene, said, “Jeetu is an tribal man and is unaware of legal procedures regarding heirs or nominees. The bank officials did not properly explain how he could lawfully access the funds from his sister’s account.”
