Jharsuguda, June 18: In a major security operation, police conducted a surprise inspection at the District Jail, Jharsuguda, and recovered a significant quantity of prohibited items, including narcotic substances, from inside the prison premises.
The raid was carried out under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Jharsuguda. A special police team conducted an extensive search of various parts of the jail, including inmate barracks, common areas, wards, beds, toilets, and personal belongings of prisoners.
During the inspection, police seized several banned items, including bidis, tobacco products, gutkha sachets, matchboxes, razor blades, a lighter, ganja (cannabis), narcotic tablets, and other contraband materials. All seized items have been taken into police custody.
The inspection team also reviewed the overall security arrangements of the prison, including CCTV surveillance, inmate monitoring systems, and visitor verification procedures. The SP directed jail authorities to further strengthen security measures and ensure strict enforcement of prison regulations.
Sources said the raid was conducted following repeated inputs regarding the illegal entry of narcotics and banned articles into the jail premises. There are allegations that certain individuals may have been involved in facilitating the smuggling of prohibited substances.
Police have initiated a detailed inquiry to determine how such items entered the jail despite existing security checks. Authorities have stated that action will be taken against anyone found involved, including inmates, jail staff, or outsiders.
Jharsuguda Police has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict security standards in correctional facilities and preventing unlawful activities inside prison premises.
