Luxury Six Seater Tesla Model Y L Arrives To Disrupt Indian EV Market

New long wheelbase Tesla SUV enters India at attractive pricing.

Tesla has officially expanded its Indian portfolio by launching the Model Y L, a long-wheelbase variant specifically engineered to provide three rows of seating. Priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this six-seater electric SUV positions itself between the standard rear-wheel drive and the flagship long-range models. It features a 2+2+2 seating configuration with premium captain chairs in the middle row, catering to the luxury family segment that prioritizes both comfort and space.

Performance remains a core focus, as the vehicle utilises a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. This setup enables the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.0 seconds while reaching a top speed of 201 km/h. Efficiency is equally notable, with a WLTP-certified range of 681 km on a single charge. Rapid charging capabilities via the Supercharger network allow owners to add nearly 288 km of range in a mere 15 minutes, addressing the common concern of range anxiety for highway travel.

Stretching the wheelbase by 150 mm has significantly increased cabin volume, offering up to 2,539 litres of storage when rear seats are stowed. Inside, passengers find a 16-inch primary touchscreen and a secondary 8-inch display for rear entertainment. Interestingly, this specific extended-body configuration was initially popularised in the Chinese market before being adapted for India's growing preference for large, chauffeur-driven luxury vehicles.

Safety remains a priority with an advanced driver assistance suite that includes collision avoidance and lane departure warnings. Potential buyers can choose from six exterior shades, including Stealth Grey and Ultra Red. With its competitive pricing and specialized seating, this model aims to challenge established luxury rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
