Bhubaneswar, May 30: A youth was allegedly murdered after being run over by a Thar SUV in the Chandrasekharpur area of Bhubaneswar, with police suspecting the crime to be linked to a love triangle. The accused allegedly attempted to pass off the incident as a road accident.
The incident occurred late on Friday night near ATM Square in Niladri Vihar, where three youths were travelling on a motorcycle. A speeding Thar SUV reportedly rammed the bike from behind, killing one of the riders on the spot and leaving the other two seriously injured.
The deceased hailed from Kaipadar in Khurda district. Following allegations made by the victim's family members, Chandrasekharpur Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation.
Police have seized the Thar vehicle involved in the incident and detained five persons for questioning. Preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been deliberately targeted.
Speaking on the case, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said the murder appears to have stemmed from a love triangle. Investigators are examining all aspects of the case to establish the sequence of events and identify the roles of those involved.
Further investigation is underway.
