βββββββAyodhya (Uttar Pradesh), July 6: Krishna Mohan has been appointed as the Interim General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust following a key meeting of the trust held in Ayodhya on Monday.
The announcement was made by Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, successor to Trust President Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, on the sidelines of the meeting. Confirming the development, Nayan Das said Krishna Mohan has been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as the interim general secretary of the trust.
He also clarified that neither Gopal Rao nor former General Secretary Champat Rai attended the meeting, stating that Gopal Rao had not been invited while Champat Rai was absent from the proceedings.
The appointment comes in the wake of the trust formally accepting the resignations of former General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra amid an ongoing investigation into the alleged embezzlement of temple donations.
Speaking after the meeting, Ram Mandir Trust Treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj said the board had accepted the resignations of both Champat Rai and Anil Mishra. He expressed sadness over the developments, noting that the trust was deeply distressed by the circumstances that led to the controversy.
“The issue is not merely about the scale of the alleged theft, but about the environment that allowed such a situation to arise. We are pained by these developments and felt it necessary to convene and deliberate on the matter with seriousness and introspection,” he said.
Explaining the circumstances surrounding the resignations, Giri said Champat Rai felt it would be inappropriate to continue in office until the investigation reaches its conclusion and those responsible are brought to justice. According to him, Rai voluntarily stepped down due to moral considerations.
Giri further revealed that senior jurist K. Parasaran pointed out that under the trust’s constitution, a resignation takes effect immediately upon submission, making the acceptance largely procedural.
The high-level meeting, advanced from its originally scheduled date due to the urgency of the situation, was attended by several senior saints, trust members and officials to discuss the way forward for the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
