SUM Hospital doctors turn around premature baby

Bhubaneswar, July 6: Doctors at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here have successfully turned around the condition of a premature baby which was admitted into the hospital for treatment in a critical condition.

Born at another hospital at 24 weeks of pregnancy and weighing only 630 grams at the time of admission, the baby was taken to the neonatal ICU of the hospital for management.

As chances of survival in such cases is generally low, the baby was managed with advanced care like invasive ventilation followed by NIV and CPAP and parenteral nutrition.

With focused attention and treatment, the general condition of the baby gradually improved. All the staff nurses and doctors of the neonatal unit put their best foot forward and their collective effort for managing such a sick neonate bore fruit.

The head of the Department of Neonatology, Dr. Debasish Nanda has congratulated the team for the achievement.

The team included Dr. Bhabagrahi Mallick, Dr. Ratan Kumar Das, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Bineet Panigrahi, Dr. Payal Pradhan,  Dr. Kalpita Sahoo, Dr. Suresh Tripathy, Dr. Sitikantha Nayak, Dr. Shrutiprajna Kar, Dr. Sarath Chandrika, Dr. Adyasha Kanungo and Dr. Subhalaxmi Sahoo. In addition, he praised and congratulated the parents of the baby for their patient involvement in the battle to save the baby.

The parents have expressed their gratitude and happiness to the neonatal team. The Dean of IMS and SUM Hospital, Dr. Sanghamitra Mishra and Medical Superintendent Dr. Pusparaj Samatasinghar provided all the necessary help and logistics for managing this case.
