India Post Records Historic 16 Percent Revenue Jump

India Post achieves record-breaking 16 percent revenue growth in FY26.

Department of Posts has registered a significant 16 per cent increase in revenue for the fiscal year 2025-26, reaching a total of ₹15,296 crore. Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia shared these figures during the Annual Business Meet 2026-27, marking this as a breakout year for the national carrier. This performance represents a sharp rise compared to the modest 2.3 per cent growth seen in the previous fiscal cycle, indicating a successful shift toward a target-driven operational model.

Strategic Pivot to Logistics

Parcel services emerged as the primary driver of this financial success. Revenue from this vertical jumped by 69 per cent, climbing from ₹669 crore to ₹1,133 crore within a single year. States like Jharkhand and Telangana led this surge, reporting growth rates of 169 per cent and 148 per cent respectively. This shift reflects a broader national trend where traditional mail is being replaced by robust e-commerce logistics, a sector where India Post is leveraging its vast rural network.

Digital and Citizen Services Growth

Citizen-centric services also showed remarkable momentum, posting a 70 per cent revenue increase to reach ₹864 crore. In the national capital, Delhi recorded an extraordinary 430 per cent rise in this category. To sustain this trajectory, the department has appointed its first-ever Chief Technology Officer and Chief Marketing Officer. These structural changes aim to transition the organization from a traditional cost center into a self-sustaining profit center within the next five years.

Historically, the postal network in India—especially in regions like Odisha with its deep rural reach—has served as a lifeline for financial inclusion. By integrating modern logistics with its traditional "Dak" services, the department is now evolving into a contemporary logistics powerhouse that competes directly with private players while maintaining its social mandate.
