IMD Predicts Minimum Temperature To Rise After Two Days With Shallow Fog In Several Areas

Mercury levels expected to soar after brief stable period

Residents across Odisha are witnessing a transition in weather patterns as the state moves away from winter chills toward early summer conditions. According to the latest data released by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, the state is currently experiencing a mix of dry spells and foggy mornings, with temperatures projected to rise significantly later this week.

Foggy Mornings to Continue

Commuters in the coastal belt should exercise caution during early morning hours. The weather department has forecast shallow to moderate fog for the next two days, valid until the morning of February 18. This foggy condition is very likely to occur in isolated pockets across several districts. The areas specifically flagged for these misty conditions include Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Data from February 16 highlights that Chandbali already experienced "Very Dense Fog" with visibility dropping below 50 meters, while Paradip, Kendrapada, and the capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded dense fog.

Temperature Trends: Hot Days and Cool Nights

While mornings remain misty, daytime temperatures are climbing. Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest location in the plains of Odisha, recording a scorching maximum temperature of 36.0°C. In contrast, the steel city of Rourkela remains the coolest in the plains with a minimum temperature of 10.1°C. In the hill stations, G. Udayagiri recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 7.1°C.

For the capital city, Bhubaneswar, the weather remains warm during the day with a maximum temperature of 33.6°C, while Cuttack recorded 30.6°C.

Upcoming Forecast

Looking ahead, the IMD predicts no large change in minimum temperatures over the next two days. However, this stability will be short-lived. Following this 48-hour period, night temperatures are expected to rise by 2°C to 3°C across various districts of Odisha, signaling the definitive end of the winter season and the onset of warmer days.
