Bhubaneswar, July 22: The water level of Hirakud Dam has risen following incessant rainfall in the upper catchment areas, prompting dam authorities to open 10 gates on Monday to regulate the increased inflow into the reservoir.

As per reports, the reservoir water level stood at 613.33 feet as of 6 am on Tuesday. The dam received an inflow of 2,10,429 cusecs, while the outflow through the 10 opened gates was recorded at 1,86,354 cusecs.

Of the 10 gates opened for water discharge, seven are located on the left side of the dam and three on the right side.

The released water has reached the Mundali Barrage in Cuttack, where over one lakh cusecs of floodwater is currently flowing.

Dam authorities said there is no immediate flood threat in the Mahanadi river system. However, officials are keeping a close watch on the situation as rainfall continues in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi basin.
