Cuttac, July 16:The Orissa High Court has imposed an interim stay on the screening of the animated film 'Mahaprabhu Jagannath' following allegations that it misrepresents the culture, rituals and traditions associated with Lord Jagannath.
The court directed that the film shall not be exhibited until further orders.
The interim order came while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Mahesh Sahu and others, who alleged that the film distorts the religious and cultural heritage of Lord Jagannath and hurts the sentiments of devotees.
After considering the submissions, the High Court ordered that the screening of the film remain suspended pending further directions. The matter is expected to be taken up for further hearing at a later date.
