Heatwave Persists in Odisha; Jharsuguda Sizzles at 41.6°C

 Odisha continued to experience intense heat on Tuesday, with seven locations recording temperatures above 40°C. Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state at 41.6°C, followed by Bolangir (41.4°C), Boudh (41.2°C), Bargarh (40.6°C), Sambalpur (40.4°C), while Hirakud and Talcher recorded 40°C each.

​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, June 9: Odisha continued to experience intense heat on Tuesday, with seven locations recording temperatures above 40°C. Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state at 41.6°C, followed by Bolangir (41.4°C), Boudh (41.2°C), Bargarh (40.6°C), Sambalpur (40.4°C), while Hirakud and Talcher recorded 40°C each.

The capital city, Bhubaneswar, registered 38.6°C, while Cuttack recorded 37.4°C. Western and northern districts bore the brunt of the heatwave, while coastal areas remained relatively cooler.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for June 10, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph in several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

The weather agency has also warned of hot and humid conditions in isolated coastal districts. Residents have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
