Balasore, July 14: The Fisheries Department has prohibited fishermen from venturing into the sea along the Balasore coast after the Bay of Bengal turned rough under the influence of a low-pressure system.

The restriction applies to fishermen operating in Udaypur, Talsari, Ranasinghpur, and Kirtania. According to the department's advisory, no fishing activities will be allowed in the sea from July 13 to July 17. Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those violating the directive.

Chandaneswar Fisheries Officer Ananta Jena said fishermen ignoring the advisory and entering the sea despite the warning would face stringent action.

As a precautionary measure, the administration is using public announcement systems to alert fishermen and residents in coastal villages about the prevailing weather conditions. Fishermen have also been advised to move their boats and fishing nets to safer locations to avoid damage.

The administration has urged all fishermen to remain alert and refrain from venturing into the sea until the low-pressure system weakens and sea conditions return to normal.
