Baliguda, May 15: In a heartbreaking case from Matikhalguda village under Baliguda block, an eight-year-old girl, Sunita Kandiki, is battling a rare and severe health condition that has left her body covered in red, fish-scale-like lesions, with her toes and fingers severely affected.
Sunita, the only child of Parshuram and Pari Kandiki, was healthy at birth, bringing joy to her family. However, her life changed within a few days as she began showing alarming symptoms. The young girl, now confined to bed, experiences excruciating pain daily.
The family has taken her to several medical facilities, including the Baliguda Community Health Center, Jaipur, and Koraput Medical College, but despite exhausting all available resources, Sunita’s condition has not improved. Helpless, her parents have now resorted to caring for her at home, placing their trust in divine intervention.
Local residents and social workers have expressed concern over the family’s inability to afford advanced treatment. Gupta Nayak, a villager, said, “The girl is suffering because of her family’s financial situation. She needs urgent medical attention.” Joy Nayak, a social worker, added, “If some financial assistance is provided by the government, Sunita can receive the treatment she desperately needs.”
This case underscores the urgent need for government intervention and community support in ensuring that children suffering from rare and critical illnesses receive timely medical care.
