Bhubaneswar, March 28: Tragedy struck a family in Balipatna after a 52-year-old farmer died suddenly while working in his field, just days before his daughter’s wedding. The incident was reported from Garedipanchana village under Balipatna police limits on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Manoranjan Barik alias Bijay, a former ward member. According to sources, he was working in a vegetable field near Manik Pokhari close to his house when he suddenly felt dizzy and stopped work.

He reportedly complained of severe chest pain and vomited blood while returning home. After walking a short distance, he collapsed on the ground. He was immediately shifted to the Balipatna Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.

Balipatna police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.

Bijay is survived by his wife Basanti, son Abinash, and daughter Ipsita, whose wedding was scheduled in the coming days. In a moving gesture amid grief, the family donated his eyes.
