Family of deceased OSRTC driver stages protest over compensation in West Bengal

Panskura, Mar 21: The family of Pramod Kumar Mahapatra, an OSRTC bus driver who recently died in a road accident, staged a sit-in protest in front of the OSRTC office demanding compensation.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the bus, travelling from Puri to Kolkata, was driven by two drivers, including Pramod Mahapatra. Feeling slightly fatigued, Pramod had stopped briefly to refresh himself when a motorcycle collided with the bus, resulting in his death.

Pramod Mahapatra is survived by three daughters and a son. Sources said no OSRTC officials were present at the site immediately after the accident, and the family was not informed immediately. The West Bengal police later arrived, recovered the body, and it was taken to a government hospital in Panskura. Following postmortem procedures, the body was handed over to the family.

The family has now staged a protest in front of the OSRTC office, demanding appropriate compensation for the tragic loss.
