Mumbai, June 23: Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi is all set to make a return to the horror genre with his upcoming film Rooh, a high-concept musical horror thriller slated for a theatrical release in 2027.
The makers officially announced the project on Tuesday, unveiling an eerie first-look teaser that has already sparked excitement among fans. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, aiming to reach audiences across India.
The teaser opens with the chilling message, “When a legend revisits the darkness, a nightmare is born,” before showcasing haunting visuals, including a burning forest, a levitating body suspended in mid-air, and a frost-covered glass slowly revealing Emraan Hashmi’s intense gaze. The glimpse also hints at the film’s musical elements, underscoring its unique blend of horror and music.
Produced by Vicked Films, Rooh is directed by Mayank Sharma, best known for creating the acclaimed web series Breathe. The screenplay has been co-written by Sharma and Vishal Kapoor, who previously worked on horror films such as Lapachhapi and Chhorii. The project is produced by Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna.
Known for his successful outings in horror films including Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Raaz 3, Raaz Reboot and Ek Thi Daayan, Emraan Hashmi’s return to the genre has generated considerable anticipation.
Speaking about the film, Hashmi said Rooh immediately resonated with him because of its combination of modern horror, emotion, and music. He noted that the film offers an intense and cinematic experience, adding that audiences have long associated him with the horror genre.
