Bhubaneswar, February 24: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a significant milestone in scrap disposal by accomplishing the Railway Board’s scrap sales target ahead of schedule. As on 20th February 2026, the ECoR has recorded total scrap sales of Rs 260.02 crore, surpassing the target 40 days in advance, said an official release.
Revenue achieved is 27.12% higher compared to Rs 204.55 crore earned during the corresponding period of 2024–25. This significant growth has been made possible through coordinated teamwork and the successful conduct of 190 auction dates across the Zone, said an ECoR release.
To ensure timely and transparent disposal, East Coast Railway has been conducting e-auctions through its dedicated Indian Railways E-Procurement System (IREPS) portal since 2013. With more than 8,900 registered vendors, the portal has strengthened transparency, competition, and efficiency in the auction process, it said.
This remarkable achievement reflects the Zone’s strong commitment to resource optimization, financial prudence and efficient asset management. The target was met through meticulous planning, transparent e-auction processes, systematic identification and segregation of scrap materials and coordinated efforts across divisions and departments, it stated.
The success is the result of coordinated teamwork across the Zone. The Stores Department led the initiative with dedication and precision, supported by the Divisions and field units.
Scrap disposal significantly boosts revenue while enhancing safety and operational efficiency through systematic removal of obsolete materials and better space management. It also promotes environmental responsibility through recycling and scientific disposal.
This achievement reflects East Coast Railway’s commitment to excellence and teamwork in supporting the broader objectives of Indian Railways and national infrastructure growth, it added.
