Bhubaneswar, April 11: Dr. Satyajit Naik, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Central Range, Cuttack, and currently serving as the Police Observer for the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, inspected the 268-Purbasthali Dakshin Assembly Constituency, located in Purba Bardhaman district. His visit was aimed at assessing the readiness of the Static Surveillance Team (SST) stationed at Bulbulitala under the Kalna Police Station.

During the inspection, Dr. Naik reviewed the operational preparedness and functioning of the SST, particularly at the naka checking point. He closely observed the vehicle checking arrangements, verification procedures, and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). A key focus was placed on ensuring strict vigilance to curb the movement of unaccounted cash, liquor, or any other form of inducement that could potentially sway the electoral process.

Dr. Naik interacted with the personnel on duty, emphasizing the following instructions:

  • Adherence to the Election Commission of India guidelines at all times.
  • Maintaining professionalism and courtesy during vehicle checks.
  • Ensuring accurate documentation and real-time reporting of any seizures.
  • Coordinating effectively with Flying Squads and other enforcement teams to ensure smooth operations.

In addition to evaluating operational protocols, Dr. Naik also inspected the infrastructure at the naka point, which included reviewing the surveillance equipment, lighting setups, and deployment patterns. He ensured that all logistical requirements were fully addressed to guarantee uninterrupted surveillance and law enforcement activities.

This inspection is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the elections in the region remain free, fair, and transparent. The election for the Purbasthali Dakshin constituency, scheduled for April 23, will be part of the multi-phase voting process for West Bengal's 294 Assembly seats. The counting of votes will take place on May 4, 2026.
