New Delhi, Ap 2: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has emphasized the need to introduce Computational Thinking (CT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in regional languages, in line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP). While launching the CT and AI Curriculum for Classes III to VIII in New Delhi, he underlined the importance of eventually localizing the curriculum, which is initially introduced in English.
Minister Pradhan expressed confidence that India, with its vast intellectual diaspora, has the capacity to quickly adapt and localize knowledge, particularly modern fields like AI. He drew attention to India's rich intellectual legacy, citing mathematicians such as Aryabhatta and Madhav, who made groundbreaking contributions in their native languages. According to him, this historical precedent underscores the need to democratize modern knowledge systems like AI in Indian languages, ensuring accessibility across all regions.
The Minister further urged the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to collaborate with state bodies to translate and implement the curriculum in various languages within the current academic year.
In his remarks, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary noted that the CT and AI curriculum will be implemented in CBSE schools nationwide. He highlighted how the curriculum aligns with the NEP’s focus on fostering innovative teaching methods and providing early exposure to emerging technologies.
Developed by the CBSE, the CT and AI curriculum aims to introduce students from Classes III to VIII to essential digital and analytical skills, ensuring that they gain familiarity with cutting-edge technologies from an early age.
