Bhubaneswar, May 11: In a decisive push to make Odisha safer and policing more responsive, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania chaired a high-level review meeting at his camp office on Sunday. Senior police officers from across the state attended the session, focusing on improving the law-and-order situation, effective crime control, stronger police-public coordination, and making policing more proactive and citizen-friendly.
The DGP directed all Superintendents of Police and Range IGs/DIGs to implement special, result-oriented measures for crime prevention while enhancing public trust. He emphasized that every police station must now conduct a mandatory “Briefing Parade” before 9 a.m., followed by detailed discussions on local law-and-order challenges, crime-prone areas, active criminals, and ongoing investigations. “This will strengthen coordination, vigilance, and rapid response at the grassroots level,” he told the officers.
He also ordered comprehensive professional and practical training for all staff deployed in Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) to improve efficiency and swift handling of complex situations. The DGP stressed strict enforcement, including the swift execution of pending Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs), action under the National Security Act (NSA) against repeat offenders, and intensified drives against drug networks.
Additional measures include enhanced beat patrolling, increased highway patrols, and targeted operations against anti-social elements. Serious cases like murders will now receive continuous monitoring by senior officers to ensure quick arrests, thorough investigations, and convictions. Police units have been instructed to actively highlight positive actions and public-service initiatives within 15 days to keep citizens informed.
Later, DGP Khurania held a separate review with all Station House Officers of the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate, focusing on local law and order, crime control, sensitive cases, traffic management, and citizen-friendly policing. The meetings were attended by top officials, including DGP (Crime Branch) Vinaytosh Mishra, Director of Intelligence R.P. Koche, Additional DGP Sanjay Kumar, Police Commissioner Dr. S. Dev Datta Singh, and Additional Commissioner Narsingha Bhol.
