Cyber fraud racket busted in Bhubaneswar; 10 SIM boxes, 100+ SIM cards seized

Bhubaneswar, March 2: A cyber fraud network operating out of Bhubaneswar has been busted, with police seizing 10 SIM boxes and more than 100 unauthorised SIM cards. Two engineering dropouts from Kerala have been taken into custody in connection with the operation.

The Special Squad, along with the Cyber Police Station team, carried out a raid at a boys’ hostel in the Chandrasekharpur locality, where they uncovered the illegal setup. The suspects allegedly used SIM box technology to reroute international calls and support fraudulent communications.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were illegally routing calls from the United States, Europe and other foreign regions while functioning from Odisha. By bypassing authorised telecom gateways through network manipulation, they allegedly diverted revenue and caused financial losses.

During the raid, police recovered 10 SIM boxes, over 100 SIM cards registered in Assam, laptops functioning as servers, and WiFi routers from the rented premises. The SIM cards were reportedly being misused for unlawful activities.

The two accused, who had discontinued their BTech studies midway, were allegedly managing the operation using VOS 3000 software, believed to have links to Bangladesh. The equipment used in the racket was reportedly procured from China.

Authorities are now investigating the broader network and examining potential interstate and international connections.
