Cuttack: Road accident victim’s family donates organs, earns widespread praise

Cuttack, March 30: In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old man lost his life in a road accident, leaving his family devastated. However, in a remarkable act of humanity, the bereaved family chose to donate his organs, earning appreciation from across the region.

The deceased has been identified as Barada Prasad Das (40), son of Bipin Bihari Das, a resident of Ghantala village under Kerilo panchayat in Nischintakoili block of Cuttack district.

According to reports, the accident occurred on March 22 when Barada was travelling on a bike along the Cuttack–Bhubaneswar road. He was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Phulnakhara, leaving him critically injured. He was initially admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Following his death, Barada’s wife, with the support of other family members, took the courageous decision to donate his organs. His two kidneys, liver and both eyes were successfully donated, giving a new lease of life to several patients.

On Sunday afternoon, his mortal remains were brought to his native place, where a large number of people joined a funeral procession from Tarat Hanuman Chhak to Ghantala village. His last rites were conducted with state honours at the village cremation ground.

Barada was working as a manager in a food company in Bhubaneswar and is survived by his wife and two daughters. While his untimely death has left the family in deep sorrow, their noble gesture has brought pride to the entire locality.
