Prime Minister Modi stood in deep respect as Indian troops marched
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood in deep respect as Indian Army and Navy contingents marched through Victoria during Seychelles' 50th Independence Day celebrations. His presence marked a proud moment during his three-day official visit to this East African nation. India has long maintained strong maritime security ties with Seychelles to counter piracy in the western Indian Ocean. Specialised Indian military units joined the grand parade marking a half-century of independence for Seychelles. Troops from the Assam Regiment caught everyone's attention by singing their famous marching song, 'Badlu Ram Ka Badan'. Prime Minister Modi later shared pictures of this vibrant parade on social media, thanking President Patrick Herminie for the warm hospitality.
Indian naval strength was also visible during these celebrations. Personnel from the stealth frigate INS Tarkash and the survey vessel INS Ikshak marched proudly in the parade. These ships arrived at the port specifically to participate in the Golden Jubilee events, reflecting strong friendship and maritime cooperation between the two countries.
Deepening Bilateral Alliances
Diplomacy remained a key focus outside the main parade grounds. Prime Minister Modi held separate meetings with Seychelles Opposition Leader Bernard Georges and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam. Both leaders discussed improving alliances across the Indian Ocean region. Discussions with the Mauritius Prime Minister focused heavily on infrastructure, green energy, and maritime defence projects.
Prime Minister Modi also addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles earlier in the day. He thanked lawmakers for their support and highlighted the shared democratic values linking both nations. Ties between New Delhi and Victoria continue to enjoy strong political backing from all sides. He praised historical bonds uniting both populations, noting that modern cooperation secures a prosperous future. This successful visit clearly demonstrates a shared vision for peaceful growth and stability within this critical maritime corridor.
