COVID scare returns to South Odisha as Berhampur reports fresh case

Berhampur, Jul 22: Concerns over COVID-19 have resurfaced in southern Odisha after a person tested positive in Berhampur, following the recent deaths of two COVID-19 patients in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, two people from Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh died due to COVID-19, while four others tested positive. The infected patients are being treated as per COVID-19 treatment protocols.

One of the deceased had tested positive on June 28 and was initially admitted to a hospital in Tirupati before being shifted to Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, where the patient died. The second patient also succumbed to the infection during treatment at the same hospital.

Authorities in Andhra Pradesh said four more people were confirmed positive through RT-PCR tests. Three of them are in home isolation, while one is undergoing treatment in a dedicated COVID ward at a local hospital.

Following these developments, concern has grown in Odisha's border districts, particularly Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri, due to regular cross-border movement. The detection of a COVID-19 case in Berhampur has further heightened vigilance, with health authorities closely monitoring the situation and urging people to remain cautious.
