CM Vijay Accuses DMK of Fueling Drug Menace, Vows No Compromise on Secularism and Social Justice

Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu), June 1:Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Monday launched a sharp attack on the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government led by M.K. Stalin, accusing it of allowing the drug menace to spread unchecked across the state and failing to protect women.

Addressing a public gathering in Tiruchirappalli, Vijay said the current administration was being unfairly blamed for law-and-order issues that, according to him, stemmed from the failures of the previous regime.

“The DMK often criticises our government over law and order, but what legacy did they leave behind? Drug culture was allowed to spread across towns and villages without effective intervention. Had it been curbed in its initial stages, many tragedies involving women and young people could have been prevented,” he said.

The Chief Minister alleged that the previous government had neglected the growing drug problem and was now attempting to shift responsibility onto his administration. He asserted that his government would remain firm on its principles and would not waver in its commitment to secularism, state rights, and social justice.

“There will be no wavering under our leadership. We will never compromise on secularism, the rights of the state, our share of river waters, social justice, equal justice, or equality,” Vijay declared.

Responding to criticism over his attire in the Assembly, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader defended his choice of wearing coats and suits, questioning why such clothing should be associated only with those in power.

“Why is there so much discussion about my attire? Are coats and suits meant only for the powerful and dominant sections of society? The black and white colours I wear represent the dual nature of the human mind, and I prefer them over flashy colours,” he said.

Reiterating his commitment to public service, Vijay said he had entered politics not to make false promises but to stand alongside the people and work for their welfare.

“I did not enter politics to mislead or deceive people. I came to serve them and remain by their side,” he added.
